On Friday, May 8, 2026, six seniors from Providence Grove High School achieved an extraordinary milestone as they graduated from University of Mount Olive with Associate Degrees in Agriscience while still completing their high school careers. The graduation ceremony was a memorable celebration of academic excellence, filled with pride, accomplishment, and excitement for the future.
The ceremony featured outstanding performances by the Carolina Singers, a choral group at the University of Mount Olive, who delivered powerful renditions of the “National Anthem” and “God Bless the USA.” The commencement speaker was Jeff Saturday, a former NFL All-Pro center best known for his longtime career with the Indianapolis Colts, where he earned multiple Pro Bowl selections and won Super Bowl XLI alongside quarterback Peyton Manning. Following his football career, Saturday became a respected sports analyst and motivational speaker, encouraging graduates to pursue excellence through hard work, leadership, and perseverance.
As each Providence Grove High School student crossed the stage to receive their diploma, they did so knowing they had accomplished something truly remarkable. These graduates participated in a dual-enrollment program known as The Ag Experience, a partnership between the University of Mount Olive, Randolph Community College, and Providence Grove High School. Beginning in their junior year, students committed themselves to rigorous college-level coursework while balancing the responsibilities of high school academics, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments.
Their success reflects countless hours of dedication, perseverance, and determination, as well as the unwavering support of teachers, families, and school leaders who encouraged them throughout the journey. Earning a college degree before receiving a high school diploma is an exceptional accomplishment and demonstrates the value of innovative academic partnerships and advanced learning opportunities available to students.
The Randolph County School System, along with Providence Grove High School proudly celebrates these students for setting a high standard of excellence and serving as an inspiration for future generations of Patriots. Congratulations to these graduates on this outstanding achievement, and best wishes as they continue pursuing their educational and career goals.
Special recognition is also extended to Wylene Johnson and Morgan Johnson, on-site UMO instructors at Providence Grove High School, whose leadership, encouragement, and dedication have been instrumental in the success and growth of The Ag Experience program. The graduating seniors would also like to express their appreciation for the support of Dr. Stephen Gainey, Superintendent of the Randolph County School System, Dr. David Cross, Director of Career & Technical Education for the Randolph County School System, Dr. Ed Croom, President of the University of Mount Olive and Dr. Davis, Assistant Dean of the School of Agriculture & Biological Sciences at the University of Mount Olive for their strong support, encouragement and continued commitment to expanding opportunities for student success.
